Who's Afraid of the Big Bad New Year's Resolutions?

They're like opinions, everybody's got one.  New Year's Resolutions, that is.  What's yours this year?

  • Lose weight?
  • eat healthier?
  • Stop procrastinating?
  • Go to church more?
  • Finally go through all those pictures that are piling up in boxes?

Okay, maybe I'm projecting but I bet a lot of people are listing out some of the same things right now.    The new year's list of commitments to 2011.  That New Year's Resolution List that we all trot out this time of the year.  The "I promise, promise, promise, I'll do it this year" list.

That horrible, terrible, really bad list that leaves you feeling like a failure every  December when you realize that you didn't get any of it done.

Is your family planning to eat you? Find out!

Are your loved ones plotting to eat you?Just browsing the internet, as I like to do and found another fun for no reason site called The Oatmeal. Comics and fun quizzes galore. Find out how long you would last trapped in a room with a velociraptor and many other fun things.

Find out if your family has a ulterior motive for offering you that extra piece of pie.

It's a fun, nonsensical way to pass a couple of minutes. Try out this quiz for yourself.

Does your family want to eat you?

According to my score, there's about a 50/ 50 chance that my family may turn cannibal on me.

Stumbled Upon some Cool Sites for your Approval

MotivatedPhotos.com

I'd like to begin by saying that I love Stumbleupon!

I just found this site.  Well, heard about it and looked it up.  Anyhoo, I found it, signed up, and found myself, 6 hours later, going, "I'll go to bed in a minute."  I had to force myself to turn off the computer.  It was like trying to get Dracula to eat garlic.

Dominoes Everywhere for the holidays

Here's a little something that Neil Patrick Harris tweeted and I found pretty cool.

Check it out: Carol of the Bells with bells and dominoes!

A Holiday Wish for You and Me

It's Christmas Eve and I should be cleaning.  Instead, I'm writing.

I am just hoping beyond hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday. That we can all be blessed this year with family and friends to surround us.  That we all have someone to cherish us.

I wish  that we can all have a  warm bed to sleep in through the new year and enough hot food to eat.

I hope that we can all pause for a moment and absorb the wonderful miracle it is to just be here and enjoy the company and companionship of each other.

I wish that we all realize our potential and capacity for

  • compassion,
  •  intellect,
  • charity,
  • faith,
  • hope,
  • serenity,
  • humility,
  • greatness;

and that each new year or month or week or day or minute is a chance to re-invent ourselves.  It's a chance to re-educate ourselves.  It's a chance to become any and everything that you want to be in life and in other's lives.

My wish for all of us is happiness.

Re-discovering Christmas Wonder and Magic

I find that I am much more excited about Christmas this year than I have been in since I was a child.

It's no lie that the past ten  years, the holidays have spelled tragedy for my extended family.   We have had our fair share of loss whether it be a  grandmother, a cousin, a  sister, an uncle, a family pet.   We have lost  at least one in our clan each year and, always, right around Christmas.  The people in our family have come to dread the holidays not just for the  freezing weather, the crowded stores, the commercialism, and  the horrible traffic.  It's hard enough going through the season without them here, but we have a biting fear that we will have to start 2011 without someone else.

This year is no different in it's potential to be a tragic holiday.  We have  a few  who just may not make it to see the new year.  Knowing that can serve to put a pall on the celebration.  So why do I feel so good this year?

Usually I'm dragging around exhausted, waiting  for the holidays to be over.  This year, I'm bouncing around humming Christmas tunes and tinseling the house.  Charlie Brown's Christmas and A Christmas Story have been the television viewing choice for the week.   All the presents are even wrapped, days before Christmas Eve.

Hunch Punch the Holidays!

The holidays are here and that means time for Hunch Punch!

As a new addition to the Christmas Eve Party that my husband's family throws every year, I was asked to bring something my first Christmas as a Davis.  The first year, I brought a relish tray.  The second year, I tried something new.

My husband's family aren't big drinkers but they seemed to really like the punch I made for his brother's birthday party, so I decided to make that.   It was quite the hit.   In fact, his grandparents sat by the punch all night.  It's become a new family tradition that I bring the Hunch Punch to all adult family functions.

So now I am going to  share that Christmas tradition with you.  Remember!  This recipe requires Everclear, an 100 proof grain liquor and it  is very strong.  The lemonade will serve to mask the taste of the liquor so be careful not to add too much liquor.  If you use more than half of the bottle of Everclear for this, you are using way too much.  Do not do shots of Everclear.  It is not meant for consumption without a mixer.  Please drink responsibly and be safe for the holidays.

Will the Real Olivia Please Stand Up! Fringe Spoiler Alert

So yay!  Olivia's back and I couldn't be happier. Good riddens Altivia!  We don't want your kind around here messing with Peter's head.  (literally and figuratively)

I have been rooting for Olivia and Peter since the beginning.  I love Pacey, I mean, Peter.  He's awesome.  I hope those two can get through this but, man, I'd be PO'd, too.   It may seem irrational, but, I would have felt like Olivia did.  Why couldn't he look into her eyes and see that she wasn't the real Olivia.

Poor Colonel Broyles, though.  That's gotta suck seeing yourself burnt up and cut in half like that even if it is just alternate you.  Moment of Hollywood Fantasy silence....

UT Martin, road trips, and bathroom time

So I took a drive down to UT Martin campus to get a look at where I will be graduating from in the fall.  Really I had to drive down because I had a Prof. that required our portfolio be mailed in by Monday at 5pm.  I wasn't taking the chance that the mail would come in at 5:01.
I figured since I'm an online student, I'd check out the school I was going to.   And try to sell back some books, too.

Sunday night I turned in my poetry manuscript.  I think it's pretty good, if I do say so myself.  I may try to get it published.  Stay tuned for that.  I was up all night Saturday night working on it and Sunday I spent finalizing my Education class portfolio.  I took the 2 and a half hour drive out to Martin, going on 48 hours with no sleep, some Coca-Cola and a Starbucks Mocha doubleshot.   That was a fun drive.  It really was.  Kinda reminded me of my young college days driving out to Chattanooga.  Only this time, no mountains to drive through.  Yay!  I got to turn up the music and play whatever I wanted, sing as loud as I wanted, and  eat junk food.  It was heaven.

Decorating project: Spare bathroom/ pt. 1

I have begun a my first real project around my house.  The spare bathroom.  It is, of course, one of the most important room for entertainers.  Besides the room you are entertaining in, the spare bathroom will be the room that most of your guests will see.

I am a bathroom connoisseur.  I have loved deciding the colors, shapes and textures I will be going with.
Beautiful Sky-lit Bathroom
I confess, I go and search out the bathrooms of new homes I visit just to see what they've done with it.  Some people have cozy, homey little bathrooms with scented soaps, magazines, and plush rugs that make you want to stay forever.  Some folks went with the shower curtain, toilet tissue, soap dish, that's it, look.  Some people have bathrooms that are under construction, for 10 years.  And some, have made their bathrooms showplaces.  Deep whirlpool tubs and heated floors.  Crown molding, bold colors  and designer bathroom fixtures.
