Hunch Punch the Holidays!

The holidays are here and that means time for Hunch Punch!

As a new addition to the Christmas Eve Party that my husband's family throws every year, I was asked to bring something my first Christmas as a Davis.  The first year, I brought a relish tray.  The second year, I tried something new.

My husband's family aren't big drinkers but they seemed to really like the punch I made for his brother's birthday party, so I decided to make that.   It was quite the hit.   In fact, his grandparents sat by the punch all night.  It's become a new family tradition that I bring the Hunch Punch to all adult family functions.

So now I am going to  share that Christmas tradition with you.  Remember!  This recipe requires Everclear, an 100 proof grain liquor and it  is very strong.  The lemonade will serve to mask the taste of the liquor so be careful not to add too much liquor.  If you use more than half of the bottle of Everclear for this, you are using way too much.  Do not do shots of Everclear.  It is not meant for consumption without a mixer.  Please drink responsibly and be safe for the holidays.

You will need:

1/3-1/2    750ml bottle of Everclear
3             cans frozen Pink Lemonade  (do not use powdered drink mixes)
3             clean, empty milk jugs
3             cans pineapple tidbits or chunks
3             cans mandarin oranges
3             cans tropical fruit mix
3             cans frozen Fruit Punch
Large, clean bucket to mix the liquid
large funnel

First,

  • WASH YOUR HANDS!
  • Thaw and mix the pink lemonade, the fruit punch, and the Everclear.  Add about 16 cups of water. Stir.
  • Put one each can tropical fruit, pineapple, and mandarin oranges and juices in each of the milk jugs.  You will have to manually  place the fruit in the jugs.  Funnels are of no use at this point, but they come in handy when you have to add the juice from the canned fruit.  Skip this step if you are just making this for at home consumption and not taking it to a party.
  • Alternate.  Mix the cans of  fruit with the alcohol and juice in the bucket.  Chill.  Enjoy!
  • Use the funnel to pour the alcohol and juice mixture into the milk jugs equally. Add more water to taste.  Chill.  Enjoy!
  • Cut the jugs open when the punch is gone and the jugs make nice bowls for the fruit that has absorbed some of the alcohol.

This can be frozen and used later.

Tip:  Real lemon juice added to fruity alcoholic beverages help to mask the flavor of the alcohol by boosting the flavor of the fruit.  So if you like pina coladas, strawberry daquiri's,  flavored margaritas, and even bloody mary's, add a small splash of lemon juice to eliminate that pesky liquor taste.
