Happy Talk Like A Pirate Day

Arrr! Today be one of me favorite nonsensical holidays:  September 19th, Talk Like a Pirate Day! It be here ag'in!

This be a day created by Cap'n Slappy and Ol' Chumbucket otherwise known as John Baur and Mark Summers on June 6th, 1995 while the two played a particularly rousing game of racquetball.   This of course seems like a perfectly wonderful way to come up with an idea fer an international holiday, doesn't it?

Hayden says, ARRGH!
Yes, I said International.  Since it's quiet conception in 1995, Talk Like a Pirate Day has become International Talk Like a Pirate Day.  According to the site and a few handy Google searches, Talk like a Pirate Day has become a phenomenon not just in America but in Asia, South Africa, Antarctica, and other places that don't begin with an A.

If ye be confused about what such a holiday entails,  mostly it consists of talking like a pirate, dressing like a pirate and/ or participating in such piraty activities like fillin yer gullet with large amounts o' ale and whisky, singing sea shantys, partying with wenches and sea-dogs, and rowdy sword fights (preferably with plastic swords).

If these sorts of activities don't be yer cup o'tea, ye can always check out the Talk Like a Pirate official website for many more events, activities, fun in school learning opportunities, websites, and piraty games ter fill yer buccaneer needs.

Be aware, me hearties:
  • Drink responsibly.  Have a sober first mate act as yer designated sailor
  • Talking like a pirate should be approved by yer employer lest ye be told ter walk the plank.
  • Job interviews, conducting business, visiting asylums, and during court appearances arrr not appropriate places ter practice yer pirate talking (or acting) skills.
  • Facebook be equipped with an English (Pirate) version to help ye with Talk Like a Pirate Day.  Just scroll down ter the bottom o' the page, click under the language heading, and  pick English (Pirate).  I don't know if they be havin pirate in other languages, arr!
  • Have fun, ye scallywags!
