What's making Apple and Google quiver in their boots this beautiful day? The word on everyone's lips this morning: Amazon Cloud Player.
Ooo. Doesn't just send shivers up your spine? What? never heard of it? That may be because it just released. Amazon Cloud Player and Amazon Cloud Drive offer customers a new way to shop for and store their vast music collections online.
Formatted mainly for PC, Mac, and Android users, these new services are going to give Apple and Google a run for their money, I think. Especially since Amazon is just GIVING away 5GB of Cloud Drive space (that is "your personal disk drive in the cloud"), your music will be stored online so if your drive crashes, your music is safe, you can transfer your previous music collections (yes, that means ITunes) and... NO SOFTWARE INSTALL.
Whoo-hoo! No QuickTime crap cluttering up my newly swiped computer! You just need a computer web browser or the Android app and you're ready to go. After the free 5, you'll have to download a MP3 album purchase to get and extra 20GBs of space. Users can also upload their videos, documents and other digital files to the cloud.
And get this, new Amazon purchases that you save to your Cloud Drive do not count against your storage. TA-DA!
Well, I mean, I didn't do it, but it seemed like a ta-da kind of moment.
Best of all this is available to all existing U.S. Amazon customers. And let me tell you, I L-O-V-E me some Amazon. I'm addicted to one-click-prime-deal finding so just about anything Amazon does, I'm all over it. But this sounds geniunely cool. I hate having to back up all of my music and crap. I'm still scared to death that it will be lost somehow, but this solves the problem.
Unless Amazon somehow loses my files. Great. Now, I'm paranoid again.
