Because Going To College Means Never Leaving Your Home

Where have I been, you ask?

No where.  I am a shut-in, a prisoner in my own home.

I'm supposed to be doing homework

I am being held here against my will by college.  School, school, and more school.  It's summer, you say.  Time to go outside and play.  No!  Summer School.  That's right.  The worst of all school.

I have 10 credits to complete to graduate.  I thought to myself, "I'll do summer classes; graduate in August."  Arrgh!  Why?  What is WRONG with me?

My classes are kicking my booty.  Summer school is NOT easy, damnit.  Tell me professors, why do you need an assignment everyday?  It's like you're trying to squeeze 16 weeks of a normal class into 4 weeks!  You are?  Nooooo....! (dramatic yell)

“Rocky” Teaches Us About Life

Hubby and I were watching the induction ceremonies of the Boxing Hall of Fame,--mostly to see Mike Tyson speak because who doesn’t want to see Mike Tyson make a speech—and we saw that Silvester Stallone was being inducted for his role as the most famous movie boxer of all time, Rocky Balboa.

Adam stated that though the movies are classic, Rocky wasn’t really very believable as a skilled boxer.   He didn’t duck or block well, and there was no fancy footwork.   I can’t stand to see people get beat up on, so I’m not the biggest fan of Rocky movies.   I am however, a big fan of underdogs.

I’ve seen all of the movies, and as I grew older I realized that "Rocky" isn’t and has never really been about a boxer.  Those movies are about a man.  They are a tribute to a regular man.  Rocky is about life lessons, the ups and downs of life, the large pains, the small pleasures, the hard losses, and the even harder triumphs that every regular man and woman will experience in their lifetime.

The Captain Spock, Zombies, and Chimamanda Adichie Connection

I'm sometimes judgmental, absolutely touchy, always mercurial (how's that for an oxymoron), and, I have frequently  felt, oddly for being such a Judgy Judgerson, open-minded about life and other people's views, perceptions, or "truths" as the case may be.  I may think someone is stupid for wearing a blue bucket on his head, but I just shake my head, figure it's their right to be stupid as long as it doesn't affect me personally, and  walk  faster hoping the "crazy person" doesn't stop to talk to me.

After viewing this presentation by (okay forgive me if this is incorrectly spelled and I have no idea how to say this) Chimamanda Adichie about "The Danger of a Single Story", I am not so sure of my objectivity, my open-mindedness, of people, their motives, and my world view as a whole.
