Revisiting Favorites: Everything I Need To Know In Life, I learned From Rocky Balboa

I was going through some of my posts and found this one.  I think it has some really good points, especially some things that I need to keep in mind.  So, I'm reposting.  If you missed it the first time, here you go!

"Rocky"  Teaches Us About Life

Hubby and I were watching the induction ceremonies of the Boxing Hall of Fame,--mostly to see Mike Tyson speak because who doesn’t want to see Mike Tyson make a speech—and we saw that Silvester Stallone was being inducted for his role as the most famous movie boxer of all time, Rocky Balboa.

Adam stated that though the movies are classic, Rocky wasn’t really very believable as a skilled boxer.   He didn’t duck or block well, and there was no fancy footwork.   I can’t stand to see people get beat up on, so I’m not the biggest fan of Rocky movies.   I am however, a big fan of underdogs.

I’ve seen all of the movies, and as I grew older I realized that "Rocky" isn’t and has never really been about a boxer.  Those movies are about a man.  They are a tribute to a regular man.  Rocky is about life lessons, the ups and downs of life, the large pains, the small pleasures, the hard losses, and the even harder triumphs that every regular man and woman will experience in their lifetime.
I came up with a list (because I love lists) of Things “Rocky” Teaches Us About Life:

·         Just because people tell you you’re nothing, doesn’t mean they’re right.  We are all something special.

·         Not everyone is book smart.  Not everyone is street smart.  We all have our talents, insecurities, hopes, and dreams.

·         You cannot duck and hide from the pain that is coming. It catches you like an uppercut square in the chin.

·         Don’t hit your elders. Just because they are older doesn't mean they can't whoop your butt.

·         Don't let others egg you into a fight you are unprepared to win.

·         Blocking doesn’t always work.  Learn to take a punch.

·         Suck Less Tomorrow.

·         When you’re knocked down, pick yourself back up.

·         Excessive drinking leads to excessive stupidity.

·         Try and if that doesn’t work, try and try again.

·         Adrian is a cool name especially when yelled at the top of your lungs.

·         Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

·         Don’t hire friends to manage your money.

·         Don’t get cocky.  Just because everyone tells you you’re the best doesn’t mean you are.

·         You are only in someone’s shadow if you stand behind them.  Step into the sun, and don’t be-grudge others their light.

·         Stay hungry.  Don’t get full and comfortable because someone is waiting to take your place when you slack off.

·         Never underestimate your opponent.

·         Triumphs are more meaningful when you have loved ones behind you.

·         “Eye of the Tiger” is an awesome song.

·         Listen to your elders.

·         Sometimes those we once thought of as enemies can become our greatest allies.

·         Everyone has Daddy issues.

The most important lesson is best said by Rocky Balboa, himself: "It ain't about how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward."

If you're thinking, "I saw those movies but didn't notice all that."  Take another look.
