Phenomenal You, Dr. Maya Angelou. Rest in Peace

Phenomenal Woman, Ms. Marguerite Johnson, you had a hard life. Raped and abused, Still you Rose to live a varied and full life as a teen mother, cook, prostitute, brothel manager, stripper, singer, actor, journalist, director, author, poet, educator, civil rights icon, poet laureate to the people.  Because of you, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings.

Porgy and Bess never had it so good.

Never afraid to give us a Brave And Startling Truth, you were a force to be reckoned with. A woman with her Finger On The Pulse of The Morning, you kept us down to earth, you mentored us, we knew you. You inspired us to love ourselves, our community, to always reach for those Lonesome Stars.

Shuffled between parents and grandparents in your youth and married thrice, you searched for love. You found it. Like your words that touched so very many, your soul is a Song Flung Up To Heaven.

For someone who gave us so much, we know you will find Amazing Peace and know there is little need to Pray your Wings Fit you Well.
They always have.

From this day to the next, we will tell your stories, recite your poems with pride and zeal and say, "We Had Her" and "Her Time Is Done."

But it will never, ever be forgotten.

Rest in Peace, Ms. Maya Angelou
